Witch/Warlock 2.0

WITCHES.png

A. ORIGIN: Genetic

In this universe they are born with the ability to use magic as an innate talent, passing down their knowledge and skills through generations of family lines.  A powerful innate connection to The Veil is found in every witch. Their abilities manifest after the age of 13 and while many witches are the self-proclaimed "Keepers of the Balance," other witches have been known to work against the Balance and use their power for personal gain.

Racial traits: Quirky, Spiteful, and Intuitive

B. APPEARANCE:

Physically, witches look no different than a normal human. They do, however, have very strong auras and magical presence that some creatures are able to sense.

  1. Aging: They can slow down aging and live hundreds of years while maintaining a beautiful and youthful appearance with the help of potions. Otherwise, their lifespan is the same as that of a human.

  2. Eyes: Their eyes have an otherworldly tint when the light hits them. (optional)

C. SOURCE OF MAGIC

In order to practice magic in this universe, a witch must tap into the power of the veil with the use of reagents. For spells that require multiple reagents, for instance, they must be prepared together prior to forming the spell. Witches often combine these into glass containers or a piece of tied off cloth known as hex bags.

What is The Veil?

The Veil is a magical barrier separating the physical world from the Other Side and other spiritual dimensions. The Veil, as well as the Other Side, is said to have been created by the original witches or architects of this realm.

What are Reagents?

They are the items that help the witch access the power of the veil. The most useful reagents are generally herbs but can include things such as blood, or bones.

D. ABILITIES:

1. Potion Brewing - Witches can utilize the energy of reagents to brew advanced potions and elixirs. This process transforms the physical life of reagents and combines their properties for rather interesting effects. Each player is encouraged to write their own personal recipe books (grimoire).

2. Divination (fortune Telling):  A witch can see through the veil and talk to the dead that resides on the other side, but cannot make physical contact with them. They can also read certain patterns and moods. Methods may include but are not limited to:

- Palm reading

- Tarot cards

- Crystals

Witches can lower the Veil using advanced magic, though this spell also requires the power provided by another magical source, like a celestial event or magical object.

Note on magic huds

They are allowed to a certain extent. Effects that push, pull, orbit, or control other avatars without consent are NOT permitted. Use discretion when using particle effects as not to add to the lag.

E. WEAKNESSES

1. Mortality: Despite their mystical attributes, witches are still human and share many of the same weaknesses as non-supernatural beings (e.g. age, decapitation, disease, heart-failure, suffocation, snapped neck, etc.). However, witches can temporarily get around this weakness through the use of protection spells.

2. Distraction: Denying a witch from concentrating or giving full attention to their spells, may render them ineffective. Since spells take time to perform, witches are vulnerable to attack before their completion. Additionally, certain spells require items, tools, and/or special events during casting, therefore they can't be invoked on a mere whim.

3. The Lobelia flower: Ingestion of certain herbs can cause a witch to lose consciousness and prevent them from using magic for an undetermined amount of time. The Lobelia flower prevents concentration and the practice of magic and can be used to weaken a witch as one would weaken a vampire with vervain.

4. Witchcraft: Witches are susceptible to magic and are not immune to other witches' spells.

F. MATING:

  • They are able to only crossbreed with humans.

G. FAMILIARS

A familiar can be any natural animal with which the individual feels an affinity. While these animals are not considered evil spirits, they're far from being just a household pet as they are treated as partners in the practice of witchcraft all thought their abilities are limited to their instinct. Because animals are believed to be more sensitive to vibrations from the unseen world, they are useful to the witch as a kind of psychic sensor, indicating the presence of negative energy by their behavior. Note: They are not magical themselves and cannot be another supernatural such as a werewolf.

The finding of an animal familiar is a very personal thing, and often the witch will send out a psychic call to attract a suitable one. An immediate and overwhelming feeling of kinship between the witch and the animal usually signifies the discovery of the new familiar.

A familiar can sense other races that the witch cannot easily identify when in human form such as a werewolf.

H. COVENS

A coven is generally a group of 4 or more witches who occasionally meet to practice magic, celebrate sacred holidays, and discuss topics on witchcraft. A coven acts as an extended family, offering support and protection to its members, but it is administered by strict rules of conduct that lead to severe punishment for those who transgress the rules.

I. VIEW OF OTHER RACES:

Supernaturals generally coexist with humans due to their shared origins and appearances. Their existence remains a myth by most of humanity which makes it easier for them to commingle with their human cohorts without detection. Most avoid exposure to the public because of the past prejudices that have led to the hunt of their species. Attitudes towards other supernaturals vary from individual to individual. It is really your character's personal history that can determine what kind of relationship it wants to have with other races.
